Early in the summer of 2018, I decided to build a shed in the garden for my daughter to use as a play den (pictured above). Once it was completed, me, myself, and I were all rather pleased with the finished product. To my delight, my daughter and also my partner (Becky) loved it too.

Becky wasted no time in sharing it on her Facebook page, and we were all overwhelmed by the response that was generated. Becky said ‘looks like a lot of people want your sheds’, followed by ‘I think you’re in the wrong job’.

 

Having really enjoyed making the shed, I got some more materials and made a play house on stilts. Again we were all rather pleased with the finished product. ‘See if that will sell’ I said proudly.

I had some wood left over, so decided to make a picnic table and some garden chairs. I was really enjoying myself. Becky was happy posting the items up for sale and we were receiving some fantastic reviews. 

​

The next thing that happened was the start of the new beginning. The picnic table sold. I delivered it to a happy customer that weekend and immediately got carried away with thinking of lots of things that I could make in my spare time to sell.

Becky saw the potential long before me, and she had a lot more belief in our builds than I ever had. She was already putting her marketing experience to good use and came up with the idea of creating a brand name for the products. After a couple of ponding weeks, Monkey Huts was created and Malcom became the mascot.
